8 - Days of Sri Lanka - Tour (7 nights)


1th day: Waikkala - Pinnawela (elephant orphanage) -
              Dambulla (cave temple).


Ride through the beautiful landscape of rice fields.
At the elephant orphanage currently live about 60 animals, including many juveniles. Elephant feeding and elephant bath in the river.
Continue via Kurunegala to Dambulla. Visit the cave temples.
Stay overnight in Dambulla at Hotel Thilanka or Hotel Pelvehera Village.


2nd day: Dambulla - Polonnaruwa - Sigirlya -
                Dambulla.


Polonnaruwa is a historic ruin city from the 11th Century with numerous stupas (pagodas), palaces and the famous rock sculptures of standing, sitting and reclining Buddha.
The Sigiriya rock is famous for its unique rock paintings.
On the top of the rock the remains of the royal palace can be seen.
The climb is rewarded by a magnificent panoramic view over the surrounding countryside.
Stay overnight in Dambulla at Hotel Thilanka or Hotel Pelvehera Village.


3rd day: Dambulla - Matale - Kandy.

At Matale we visit a Hindu temple and a spice garden.
In Kandy, we visit the botanical garden of Peradeniya.
It is the most beautiful garden in Southeast Asia (orchid house, palm-trees, double coconut and the largest tree covers an area of 1800 m2).
We attend the early evening ceremony at the temple of the "holy tooth", then we look Sri Lankan folk dances in the auditorium.
Stay overnight in Kandy at Hotel Swiss Residency or Hotel Thilanka.


4th day: Kandy - Nuara Eliya - Ella

Train journey from Kandy to Nanu Oya through the beautiful mountains of Sri Lanka with many tea estates and waterfalls. We visit a tea factory, where you can buy and  taste a factory fresh tea. Nuwara Eliya means in Sinhala "city above the clouds." It was during the British colonial summer residence of the wealthier population of Colombo and has a pleasant climate (1800 m above sea level. M.) Drive through the terraced vegetable cultural landscape to Ella.
Stay overnight in Ella in the Hotel Country Comfort.


5th day: Ella - Tissamaharama - Yala National Park

We drive from Ella through the winding road to the lowlands pass Wellawaya to Tissa.
In the late afternoon we make a jeep safari in the Yala National Park. There are crocodiles, deer, elephants, wild boars, peacocks and many species of birds and with luck we can see leopards and bears.
Stay overnight in Yala in the Hotel Yala.


6th day: Yala - Matara - Weligama - Unawatuna

We drive along the south coast through the beautiful beaches and bays of Hambantota, Tangalle, Dondra (the most south point of the island), Matara, Weligama (with its famous stilt fishermen). A optional visit to a lace-making factory in Unawatuna.


Stay overnight in Unawatuna at Hotel Unawatuna Beach or Hotel Panorama.


7th day: Unawatuna

We have the whole day in Unawatuna for swimming and relaxing.
We stay again in Unawatuna Beach Hotel or Hotel Panorama.


8th day: Unawatuna - Galle - Hikkaduwa - Bentota -
               Colombo - Waikkala.


In Galle we visit the old Dutch fortress. In Hikkaduwa, one of the liveliest resorts, on request we can have a ride with a glass bottom boat over the reef.
On our way we stop at a turtle farm (with newly hatched baby turtles, which are exposed later in the sea)
In Colombo we take a city tour and conclude our island journey in Rico Shadow Guest House in Waikkala.
