5 - Days of Sri Lanka - Tour (4  nights)


1st day: Walkkala - Pinnawela (elephant orphanage)
              Dambulla (Cave Temple).

Ride through the beautiful landscape of rice fields, and pineapple plantations.
We make few stops to look the work of the craftsmen on our way.
In the elephant orphanage currently live about 60 animals, including many juveniles.
Elephant feeding and Elephant bath in the river. Continue via Kurunegala to Dambulla. Visit the cave temples.
Stay overnight in Dambulla at Hotel Thilanka or Hotel Pelvehera Village.

2nd day: Dambulla - Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya -
                Dambulla.

Polonnaruwa is a historic ruin city from the 11th Century with numerous stupas (pagodas), palaces and the famous rock sculptures of standing, sitting and reclining Buddha.
The Sigiriya rock is famous for its unique rock paintings.
At the top there are the remains of the royal palace.
The climb is rewarded by a magnificent panoramic view over the surrounding countryside.
During the ride we see farmers harvesting rice and watch the work in a rice mill.
Stay overnight in Dambulla at Hotel Thilanka or Hotel Pelvehera Village.

3rd day: Dambulla - Matale - Kandy.

At Matale we visit a Hindu temple and a spice garden.
In Kandy, we visit the Botanical Garden of Peradeniya. It is considered the finest in Southeast Asia (orchid house, palm-trees, double coconut).In the evening we visit the temple of the tooth during the ceremony. Then we attend the Sri Lankan dance performance at the theater.
Stay overnight in Kandy at Hotel Thilanka or Hotel Swiss Residency.

4th day: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya.

Train journey from Kandy to Nanu Oya through the beautiful mountains of Sri Lanka with many tea plantations and waterfalls. Visit a tea factory, where you can buy Ceylon tea and taste a freshly brew cup of black tea.
Nuwara Eliya (means city above the clouds) has a pleasant climate (1800 m above sea level. M.). During the British colonial period Nuwara Elia was the Summer residence of the English people from Colombo.
Stay overnight in Nuwara Eliya at Hotel Windsor or Grand Hotel.

5th day: Nuwara Eliya - Hatton - Avissawella -
               Ratnapura - Waikkala.

Early morning we drive from Nuwara Eilya towards Hatton. We see tea estates and vegetable plantations and three waterfalls.
If you like we can make a stop on our way where the movie "THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI”was filmed.
Along the Kelani River, we drive through varied landscapes to Ratnapura, the gem city. With a little luck we can visit a gem mine and make at least one visit to the gem museum to see gem grinding.
From here we pass through large rubber tree plantations on rural roads back to Waikkala.
